Who is Cathy Hopkins

Cathy Hopkins is the author of several book series for teenagers including Million Dollar Mates, Mates Dates and Cinnamon Girls.
The Cathy Hopkins site is a fun and informative website for children and teenagers where they can find out more about Cathy Hopkins’ books, enter competitions to win books, download wallpapers or bookmarks and learn new facts about Cathy and her books.

What information will I collect from children?

If your child does not register to receive the Cathy Hopkins newsletter on the Cathy Hopkins website I will not hold any information personal to them. They do not have to submit any personal details of any kind to use/view the majority of the site.

If your child wishes to enter competitions and receive my newsletter which will contain all the latest information about me and my upcoming books they have to register. The only personal information I require for registration is their name, age (including confirmation of whether they are under or over 12) and their email address for the purpose of sending them the newsletter or in connection with a competition.

I will only disclose personal information about your child to a third party in accordance with my Privacy Policy.

I do not currently offer message rooms, chat rooms, forums or blogs on the site.

Online safety for children

The internet is a fantastic resource for learning, entertainment and communication.

I want you and your child to enjoy looking at my site and encourage you to spend time online and participate in the activities offered by this site. I recommend that you read the Home Office guidelines for keeping your child safe on the internet:

http://www.crimereduction.homeoffice.gov.uk/publicity_catalogue/pdf/Keep%20Your%20Child%20Safe%20on%20the%20Internet%20-%20IPC2.pdf

The following checklist may also be helpful:

  • Talk to your child about their use of the internet and take an active interest in what they are looking at. Keeping the computer in a busy room in the home may allow you to achieve this more easily and become involved in their internet use.
  • Consider the use of software that filters and monitors what your child can access online.

Talking this over with your child and agreeing ground rules prior to using such software can help.

  • · Make sure your child knows the important safety rules of (a) never going to meet someone they have met online and (b) never revealing any personal contact details online.

My Terms and Conditions of use and Privacy Policy for the Cathy Hopkins website

Please take the time to read both of these documents and explain them to your child.
